How do you set up a good shisha session?

Three things make the session: fresh molasses that hasn't dried out, charcoal lit all the way through before it goes on, and the right water level in the base — just covering the tip of the stem. Spread the molasses in the bowl without packing it so air flows and the smoke comes out smoother.

Why does the molasses taste burnt?

Usually too much heat: too much charcoal, or charcoal sitting too close to the molasses. Reduce the charcoal or raise the foil, and rotate the coals periodically instead of leaving them in one spot.

How long does a session last?

It depends on the molasses, the amount of charcoal, and how the bowl was packed. Changing the charcoal at the right moment extends the session and protects the flavour.

How should molasses be stored after opening?

In an airtight container in the fridge, so it keeps its moisture and flavour instead of drying out.

How do you clean a shisha?

Wash the base, stem and washable hose after the session so flavours don't mix and the next session tastes clean.
