The Complete TEREA Flavour Guide
A reference guide to all twelve TEREA variants: flavour family, official descriptor and overall character for each one, who it suits, and ILUMA compatibility.
The Complete TEREA Flavour Guide
Twelve TEREA variants, each with its own character. The full table comes first, then every flavour exactly as the manufacturer describes it on the pack.
How many TEREA flavours are there and how do they differ?
The TEREA catalogue holds twelve variants across three families: classic tobacco with no cooling (Silver, Bronze, Amber, Sienna, Teak, Russet and Rigan), clean menthol (Turquoise), and menthol with fruit (Purple Wave, Sun Pearl and Oasis Pearl), plus Yellow, which is light and zesty with no menthol at all. Every variant works exclusively with ILUMA devices.
The difficulty is not choice, it is that the names say nothing. What separates Amber from Sienna? This guide answers that: an English name, its Arabic equivalent, a flavour family, and a description taken from the product’s own spec sheet.
What are TEREA sticks?
TEREA is the real heated tobacco range from IQOS, made by Philip Morris International (PMI). Every pack carries the same product type: real heated tobacco sticks — SMARTCORE STICKS. The tobacco is genuine, and the device heats it instead of burning it, so no ash is produced. That mechanism is covered in full in the IQOS and heated tobacco guide.
Packaging is identical across the range — 20 sticks per pack, 10 packs per carton, 200 sticks in total — so comparing two variants means comparing character only. TEREA is also not a universal stick: it is built for IQOS ILUMA devices running SMARTCORE INDUCTION, as set out in the compatibility section. Browse all TEREA products or the wider IQOS section.

The classic tobacco family
The largest group in the range, and none of these carry menthol or a cooling capsule. What separates them is the level of roast and the accompanying note. For a head-to-head on the three best known, see Silver vs Bronze vs Amber.
TEREA Silver
TEREA Silver sticks — light classic tobacco with aromatic herb notes. The official descriptor is “Refined & Toasted”: a balanced toasted blend, gently polished, with light aromatic herbs giving a quiet depth. Clean and even, with no cooling sensation. Best for: straightforward classic tobacco, and the logical first choice for anyone new to TEREA.
TEREA Bronze
TEREA Bronze sticks — tobacco with cocoa and dried fruit. Officially a rich and warm experience: a smooth, aromatic base with cocoa and dried fruit as accompanying notes, warm and rich without sharpness, and no menthol or cooling. Best for: a warm, rich taste with a gentle sweet note behind it — the closest the classic family comes to a sweet profile.
TEREA Amber
TEREA Amber sticks — classic roasted tobacco with woody and nutty touches, officially balanced and roasted. The roast dominates over a rounded body, with a light woody aroma and a quiet nutty touch behind it. The finish is warm and steady, with no menthol and no capsule. Best for: the roast in the foreground. If Silver reads as too quiet, Amber is the next step.
TEREA Sienna
TEREA Sienna sticks — classic woody tobacco with light tea notes, officially balanced and woody. Roasted tobacco with a rounded body and clear woody touches, with delicate tea in the background and a dry, elegant, clean finish. No cooling sensation. Best for: a dry finish rather than a warm one; the wood is more pronounced here than in Amber.
TEREA Teak
TEREA Teak sticks — classic tobacco with a creamy body and nutty notes, officially rounded and creamy. Balanced roasted tobacco paired with a soft creamy body, nutty notes lending a pleasant richness, and a smooth finish without coarseness. No cooling. Best for: smoothness above all — the least coarse of the classic family.
The menthol family
Here the refreshing variants begin, with one important distinction: Turquoise is explicit menthol, while Yellow refreshes through citrus and carries no menthol at all. The two get confused because both are described as light. A wider comparison sits in Purple Wave vs Turquoise vs Yellow.
TEREA Turquoise
TEREA Turquoise sticks — clean menthol with a citrus touch. The descriptor is “Cooling & Crisp”: sharp, clean menthol cooling over a light toasted tobacco base, with delicate citrus heightening the freshness. The menthol is explicit and steady from the first stick to the end of the session. Best for: menthol clear and direct, with no fruit behind it.
TEREA Yellow
TEREA Yellow sticks — light tobacco with a citrus touch. The descriptor is “Mild & Zesty”: a light, smooth experience whose signature is a refreshing citrus lift, calm and balanced, with no menthol and no cooling sensation. Best for: refreshment without cold. If you want actual cooling, Turquoise or Purple Wave is the destination.
The fruit and menthol family
Three variants pair menthol with fruit, split into two types: one with constant menthol and no capsule (Purple Wave), and two with a capsule in the mouthpiece pressed on demand (Sun Pearl and Oasis Pearl).
TEREA Purple Wave
TEREA Purple Wave sticks — menthol with dark forest fruits. The base is a tobacco blend saturated with deep menthol cooling, accompanied by dark forest fruits and berries, giving clear freshness over a ripe berry background. There is no cooling capsule: the menthol is constant from the first stick to the last and needs no action from the user. Best for: menthol and fruit together with nothing to press or manage.
TEREA Sun Pearl
TEREA Sun Pearl sticks — menthol with watermelon notes, and they do carry a cooling capsule in the mouthpiece. Before pressing, the base is balanced toasted tobacco with light aromatic herbs; on pressing, watermelon with menthol cooling, accompanied by warm tropical fruits. A quiet spiced tobacco that turns fresh at any moment the user chooses. Best for: anyone torn between classic tobacco and menthol who wants both in one stick.
TEREA Oasis Pearl
TEREA Oasis Pearl sticks — menthol with tropical fruits, also with a capsule in the mouthpiece. Before pressing, the base is balanced toasted tobacco with creamy notes and soft nuts; on pressing, passion fruit with menthol cooling and tropical fruits behind it. Best for: the same logic as Sun Pearl, but a creamy base instead of a spiced one and a sharper tropical fruit — the choice comes down to which base you prefer before the press.
A “capsule” in TEREA means a cooling capsule inside the mouthpiece that you press by hand, and it exists only in Sun Pearl and Oasis Pearl. Turquoise and Purple Wave carry constant menthol with nothing to press, and Yellow has no menthol at all despite being described as refreshing.
Other variants in the catalogue
These two also belong to the classic tobacco family, but each has a character distinct enough to warrant its own section.
TEREA Russet
TEREA Russet sticks — classic full-bodied tobacco with malt notes, officially robust and malty. The base has an assertive presence, and the malt — roasted barley — gives a satisfying fullness. No menthol and no cooling sensation. Best for: the most pronounced tobacco presence in the catalogue. If Silver and Amber read as too quiet, Russet is the right direction.
TEREA Rigan
TEREA Rigan sticks — tobacco with a touch of spice, officially refined and spicy. A carefully polished base whose signature is a spiced presence lending the taste a refined character, balanced and never sharp, with no menthol or cooling. Best for: something other than the usual roast without moving into menthol; here the spice sits at the front rather than the background.
How to choose your first flavour
Rather than working through twelve variants at random, start with two questions: do you want cooling or not, and if not, do you prefer roast or warmth?
| If you want… | Start with | Alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Balanced classic tobacco, no cooling | Silver | Amber |
| A warm, rich taste | Bronze | Teak |
| A dry, elegant finish | Sienna | Rigan |
| Maximum body and fullness | Russet | Amber |
| Explicit menthol, no fruit | Turquoise | — |
| Menthol over a fruit background | Purple Wave | Oasis Pearl |
| Control over when cooling starts | Sun Pearl | Oasis Pearl |
| Refreshment without cold | Yellow | — |
One practical note: do not buy a full carton of a variant you have never tried. A carton holds 200 sticks, which is a large commitment if the character does not suit you. Start with a single pack of 20 and decide from there.
TEREA compatibility with ILUMA devices
Every TEREA variant works exclusively with IQOS ILUMA devices fitted with SMARTCORE INDUCTION. The reason is technical: a TEREA stick contains an internal heating element, and the device heats it by induction with no blade entering the tobacco.
| Device | Works with TEREA? |
|---|---|
| ILUMA | Yes |
| ILUMA PRIME | Yes |
| ILUMA ONE | Yes |

If you own a BONDS device, the sticks made for it are BLENDS — a separate range that does not interchange with TEREA in either direction. Browse the IQOS section for the devices available, or all TEREA products for the full flavour range.
FAQ
How many TEREA flavours are available?
Twelve: Silver, Bronze, Amber, Sienna, Teak, Russet and Rigan in the classic tobacco family; Turquoise and Yellow in the refreshing group; and Purple Wave, Sun Pearl and Oasis Pearl in the fruit and menthol family. The list is updated whenever a new variant is added.
Which TEREA flavour is the strongest?
Going by the product listings, Russet is the one described as robust and full-bodied with an assertive presence, while Silver is described as balanced and clean. IQOS does not publish a numeric intensity scale for TEREA, so the comparison rests on description rather than figures.
Which TEREA flavours contain menthol?
Turquoise, Purple Wave, and Sun Pearl and Oasis Pearl once their capsule is pressed. Yellow has no menthol and no cooling sensation despite its citrus lift, and neither does any variant in the classic family.
Which variants have a capsule to press?
Sun Pearl and Oasis Pearl only. The capsule sits in the mouthpiece and is pressed on demand to shift the taste from classic tobacco to fruity menthol. Purple Wave and Turquoise carry constant menthol instead, from the first stick to the last.
Do TEREA sticks work with older IQOS devices?
No. TEREA works exclusively with IQOS ILUMA devices running SMARTCORE INDUCTION. It is not compatible with blade-based IQOS ORIGINALS devices (IQOS 3 · 3 DUO · 3 MULTI · 2.4 · 2.4+), nor with BONDS by IQOS, which uses its own sticks.
How many sticks are in a TEREA carton?
A carton contains 10 packs of 20 sticks each, for a total of 200 sticks. This packaging is identical across every TEREA variant.
Are TEREA sticks ordinary cigarettes?
No. They are real heated tobacco sticks of the SMARTCORE STICKS type, used inside an ILUMA device that heats the tobacco rather than burning it, so no ash is produced. They are never used on their own and are never lit.
