How many puffs do you actually get from a disposable?
The number on the box is a lab estimate, not a guarantee. The manufacturer runs the device on a fixed puff regime — one puff length, one interval, one power mode — until the flavour is gone, then publishes the result as an “up to” figure. Real use differs because your puff length, draw strength and device mode differ, so your actual count usually lands below the printed one.
That is not a fault in the product or in the shop. It is the nature of any figure produced by a standardised test: the test measures one thing under one set of conditions, while people use the device in a hundred different ways. The printed number is useful as a way to compare devices, not as a countdown clock for the one in your hand.
How puff counts are measured
Nobody at the factory counts puffs by hand. The device is connected to a puffing machine that draws for a fixed duration, at a fixed interval, at a fixed temperature, in a single power mode, and repeats until the flavour runs out or the charge ends. The total is the number printed on the box.
That is why almost every spec panel says “up to”: up to 6000 puffs on JDI Vabeen 6000, up to 25000 puffs on Tesla Bar XT 25000. Some panels say it outright — JDI Vabeen Mini 900 is listed as “around 900 puffs, varying with usage pattern”, and Air Bar Nano 800 as “up to about 800 puffs, varying with draw style”. One device, two different numbers
The clearest proof that the figure is an assumption rather than a fixed fact sits in our own catalogue: Cyber Tank 40000 is rated at up to 40000 puffs in ECO mode and up to 25000 puffs in Boost mode. Same device, same flavour, same battery — the entire difference is the operating mode you pick.
The same logic runs through other devices. Instabar 70000 (Instabar BE70K) has three modes: ECO, STD and TURBO. Vabeen Mini has three power settings inside a 7–10W range with a TURBO step. The rule repeats everywhere: the big number always belongs to the quietest mode.
“Up to 20000 puffs” is a ceiling under ideal conditions. It is not a minimum and not an average. When comparing two devices, compare ceiling against ceiling — never a printed ceiling against your own daily experience.
Why real use differs
Three factors explain most of the gap, and all three are yours to control, not the manufacturer’s.
Puff length
The on-screen counter records events, not volume. A long draw and a short one both register as a single puff, yet the long one consumes several times as much flavour. Draw strength
Most disposables are draw-activated with no buttons, so the pressure sensor decides how much power reaches the coil. Gaps between puffs
Back-to-back puffs give the wick no time to reabsorb flavour from the tank. Coil temperature climbs, consumption rises and taste drops. Left unchecked, it ends in a burnt taste while flavour is still left — the most common way a device finishes far short of its printed figure.
On top of those three sits a fourth factor you do not control: the draw style the device is built for. DTL (shisha-style) devices move far more air and flavour than MTL (cigarette-style) ones — Cyber Shisha 30000 runs at 45W on a 0.6 ohm coil, while JDI Romio XL 800 sits at 1.6 ohm. Flavour capacity and puff count
One quick calculation exposes the assumption hidden behind any figure: divide flavour capacity by the claimed puff count. The result is a tiny fraction, so it reads more clearly as millilitres allocated per thousand puffs:

The pattern is consistent: the higher the claimed figure, the smaller the flavour budget per thousand puffs. Air Bar 500 allocates 3.6 ml per thousand; Tesla Bar XT 20000 allocates 0.6 ml. That does not make one honest and the other inflated — it means the assumption behind each number is different. A shorter, lighter puff produces a bigger count from the same capacity.

300 puffs a day is an assumption chosen to make the tiers comparable — not a measured average and not a promise. The last column is arithmetic applied to a figure that was already published as “up to”. DTL devices also empty faster than MTL devices carrying the same number, so never compare tiers without checking the draw style.

When a device ends early
Sometimes the gap is not small but large, and the causes are known and avoidable:
- The higher power mode. TURBO or Boost gives denser vapour and a shorter life — Cyber Tank publishes both figures: 40000 puffs in ECO against 25000 in Boost.
- The coil before the flavour. Continuous use with no pauses stresses the wick, so the taste turns burnt while flavour is still in the tank. Full detail in the burnt taste article.
- The battery before the flavour. Non-rechargeable devices — Air Bar 500 on a 380 mAh cell, Lost Mary 800 on 550 mAh — are used until they stop and cannot be charged. Devices with a Type-C port separate battery life from flavour life.
- Heat and storage. Our product panels specify a dry place away from direct sunlight and high heat. In a Kuwaiti summer, the car is the worst place to leave a device.
- Leaking. Flavour that escapes the device is flavour you never inhale, which is why models such as Cyber Shisha 30000 ship with a triple silicone anti-leak system and an air-sealing pin.
